With a focus on wellness, prevention, and chronic care management, health plans play a major role in the health care system.

Nurses are employed at all levels in health plans, and in every operating unit, influencing the development of, direction of, and implementation of our patient and family centered programs in a profound way.

On this webinar, participants will hear from Susan Kosman, RN, BSN, MS, Chief Nursing Officer for Aetna Inc. and Diane Hogan, DNP, RN, MA, Director of Clinical Innovations at Humana Cares who will present the various roles that nurses fill in national health plans which enable them to lead change to advance health among consumers.

This award is coordinated by the Delaware Nurses Association and Delaware Organization of Nurse Leaders.The purpose of the Delaware Excellence in Nursing Practice Award is to recognize those in the nursing field who consistently promote, excel, and bring a positive approach to their area of practice.

The award categories are: Critical Care Staff Nurse – Hospital-Based, Non-Critical Care Staff Nurse – Hospital-Based, Outpatient/Ambulatory Care, Long-Term Care, Hospice Care, Community-Based, Advanced Practice, Executive Nurse Leader/Manager, Nurse Leader, Academic Nurse Educator, Nurse Educator/Staff Development, and New Nurse Graduate.

Strong Start for Mothers and Newborns Funding

The Strong Start initiative supports reducing the risk of significant complications and long-term health problems for both expectant mothers and newborns.

Strong Start includes two strategies:

Public-Private Partnership to Reduce Early Elective Deliveries
Building on the work of the Partnership for Patients, this initiative will test ways to encourage best practices and supports providers in reducing early electives deliveries prior to 39 weeks. CMS will also team up with advocacy and professional organizations to increase current public awareness efforts and develop new ones.

Funding Opportunity for Testing New Approaches to Prenatal Care
CMS will make funding available for providers, states and other eligible applicants to test the effectiveness of three enhanced prenatal care approaches to reduce preterm births for women covered by Medicaid who are at risk for preterm births.

The House of Delegates (HOD) is the official governing and voting body of ANA. The HOD provides stewardship for the profession through the creation of policy and positions that support the purposes of ANA. The HOD is comprised of delegates duly elected by constituent and state nurses associations and the Individual Member Division (IMD).
