Q: Is DNA a union?
A: No. DNA is a professional organization for registered nurses in Delaware.

Q: Is DNA part of the Board of Nursing?
A: No.

DNA is a 501(c)(6) non-profit professional organization for nurses.

The Delaware Board of Nursing is charged with the protection of the health, safety and welfare of Delaware's citizens by establishing rules and regulations for the licensure and practice of professional and practical nursing. The Board issues licenses by examination and edorsement, evaluates and approves educational programs, conducts hearings and imposes disciplinary sanctions, when deemed necessary.

Q: Is the association only for RNs?
A: Yes. DNA represents the interest of all registered nurses in the state of Delaware. Only RNs are eligible to join. DNA is a constituent member of the American Nurses Association which represents the interest of the nation's 3.1 million nurses.

Q: What does it mean to be a constituent member of ANA?
A: As a constituent member association (CMA) of the American Nurses Association (ANA), the CMAs determine much of the direction of ANA through the ANA House of Delegates; which comprises of delegates sent by each state, apportioned to each state by membership count.

Q: As an LPN can I attend DNA conferences?
A: Of course! DNA believes strongly that nursing professional development is a life-long process of active participation by nurses in learning activities that assist in developing and maintaining their continuing competence, enhancing their professional practice, supporting achievement of their career goals, and ensuring quality health care to the public.

Q: What is the relationship between DNA and the APN Council of Delaware?
A: The APN Council is a committee of the DNA.

Q: Is DNA accredited by ANCC?
A: Yes. The DNA is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as an Approver and Provider of nursing continuing education.

Q: How can I get a copy of the Scope and Standards?
A: All Scope and Standards publications can be purchased through ANA's bookstore.

Q: How do the dues work for me?
A: Dues support the work of both DNA and ANA. The national association (ANA) speaks for all nurses at national and international forums. ANA is a recognized and respected voice in Washington DC, where ANA has taken the lead in pushing reforms benefiting nurses. The DNA is the only voice in Dover dedicated to advocating on behalf of all nurses in Delaware.
