Delaware Excellence in Nursing Practice Awards

The purpose of the Delaware Excellence in Nursing Practice Award is to recognize those in the nursing field who consistently promote, excel, and bring a positive approach to their area of practice. This award is coordinated by the Delaware Nurses Association and Delaware Organization of Nurse Leaders.

The 2013 award categories are:

  • Clinical Nurse-Critical Care – Hospital-Based
  • Clinical Nurse-Inpatient – Hospital-Based
  • Outpatient/Ambulatory Care Long-Term Care
  • Hospice Care
  • Community-Based
  • Advanced Practice
  • Executive Nurse Leader/Manager
  • Nurse Leader
  • Academic Nurse Educator
  • Nurse Educator/Staff Development
  • New Registered Nurse Graduate

Completed applications may be emailed to nurseexcellence@denurses.org

Only complete applications received by the deadline on May 10, 2013 will be considered for this year’s awards. All categories must have a minimum of 3 nominees to be considered a viable category for consideration of an award. The contact person will be notified for categories receiving less than 3 nominations.

This year's award ceremony is scheduled for July 25, 2013 at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, Delaware.

This award is coordinated by the Delaware Nurses Association and Delaware Organization
of Nurse Leaders.

Dover, DE (July 12, 2012)-The Delaware Excellence in Nursing Practice Awards was held at the Modern Maturity Center with Dyane Bunnell delivering the keynote address and comments from Delaware Lt. Governor Matt Denn and Delaware Senator Bethany Hall-Long. Representatives from the offices of US Senators Coons and Carper were also in attendance.

The Nightingale Tribute recognizes those registered nurses who have passed away for their years of service. The tribute includes the reading of the poem “She Was There” by Duane Jaeger, RN, MSN followed by a reading of names.

This year’s award winners are:

  •     Acute Care-Critical: Julie Oscar, Christiana Care Health System
  •     Acute Care-Non-Critical: Melanie Chichester, Christiana Care Health System
  •     Advanced Practice: Martha Coppage-Lawrence, Christiana Care Health System
  •     Academic Nurse Educator: Lucille Gambardella, Wesley College
  •     Nurse Educator/Staff Development:
        Mary Lou Hamilton, Delaware Tech Community College
  •     New Nurse Graduate: Cherie Ben, Christiana Care Health System
